The User Experience Plan - Honours Blog 16

Updated: May 4, 2020

Every good product needs a good user experience, but even a simple one can be complicated to make. Trying to wrap your head around how to make a product obvious and easy to use can be quite a mind buster but I think I've got it. My 'Blind spot detection kit' will consist of three main parts: 1. The bike sensors & CPU 2. Helmet feedback 3. Sleep/Wake button The idea is, the bike sensors will feed the information to the CPU, which will decipher whether or not the biker is in a blind spot. If they're not - nothing will happen - but if they are, the CPU will send a message via Bluetooth to the bikers helmet feedback. As well as this, there will be 'sleep/wake button' mounted somewhere on the bike (probably the handlebars), so the biker can control the kit. There will be a 'sleep' button on this unit, that allows the rider to temporally stop the kit from working in case they're in a high-pressure situation, they can then press the sleep button again to wake the system up and start alerting them again. The buttons will be wired to the CPU so that there is no issue with the buttons sending information to the helmet feedback. I'm planning on having the Bluetooth pairing between the helmet feedback and the CPU as automatic, so as soon as the bike and headset are turned on, they'll automatically connect to one another without any hassle. There will be no buttons for the sensors on the bike, as long as they are connected up to the bike's battery they'll turn on along with the bike's ignition. If the rider wishes to ride without the aid of the blind spot detection all they'd need to do is keep the headset off, so they receive no feedback. Once the rider has come back from their journey, the kit will send an email to them so they can review their ride, see how long they spend in vehicle blind spots, how they could improve and other motorcycle related news such as best routes to ride etc. This is how I have it all planned out for the moment, and if anything changes, I'll either update this blog or write another. That's all from this blog. My next step is to tackle the design of the Sleep/Wake buttons for the bike. Thanks for reading!
