300 Word Product Summary

I started this project with the broadest of briefs – all I knew was that, as an enthusiastic learner motorcyclist, I was keen to develop something for the biking community. Through a process of online surveys and face to face interviews with fellow bikers, I identified two key areas that appeared to present challenges for them - safety on the road and learning experience. After more research and discussions with tutors and Gurus, I decided to make a product that would be able to address both those challenges by helping to facilitate learning while improving safety at the same time.


The product is called a Blind Spot Detection Kit, and it aims to promote safer riding by highlighting when the user is sitting in a car’s blind spot. By using Artificial Intelligence technology, the kit recognises when a rider may not be visible to surrounding traffic and feeds this information back to them, giving them time to adjust their road position and to ensure that they are visible to nearby vehicles. At the end of every journey The Blind Spot Detection kit can email the rider with data from their trip so that they can use this knowledge to improve their skills even further should they wish to.

The product was developed through the processes of sketching, model making and CADing.


By using this kit, learner users will soon start to be able to recognise blind spots on their own and will learn to adjust their position in order to remain in the safe. I therefore believe that this product very much responds to the challenges identified in my initial research surrounding motorcycle safety.
