HUD Development: Pictures and Videos - Honours Blog 35

Updated: May 4, 2020

As I'm starting to round off Development on the HUD (Heads Up Display), I thought it would be a good idea to make a few 'real-life' concept photos and videos, demonstrating how the HUD would look to riders using the kit. I've demonstrated each of the three warning signs; Warning left, warning right, and warning straight ahead. To balance this out, I've also developed a photo to show how it hides away when there are no warnings. Since the top half of the HUD is transparent, it becomes almost invisible when not lit up. This ensures that the rider can keep their full undivided attention on the road, without getting distracted by unnecessary information.

I've mentioned in past blogs, to prevent startling the rider the warning symbols will slowly fade on and off. To demonstrate this, I've edited together a few videos showing a few examples of when the kit would come into action. The kit only lights up when in the blind spot of a car for several seconds and at speed, so it won't light up when overtaking or when stationary next to parked cars.

Since the HUD doesn't display any information out with a warning, there will need to be a way for the rider to know the battery percentage. To get around this, the HUD will light up small battery symbol when the kit gets to 10% battery. That way it gives the rider sufficient notice to get the HUD back up to charge before their next journey.

Going forward I'm going to finish adding that last few details to the hud, before posting it final form here on the blog.

That's all for today's blog,

Thanks!
