300 Word Product Summary - DRAFT

For many people, motorbiking is one of the most enjoyable and exhilarating things they can do – they revel in the feelings of freedom, excitement, adventure and challenge. For others, the gains simply do not outweigh the risks - other road users can be guilty of not paying due diligence to motorcyclists, resulting in a high number of rider injuries and casualties. According to government data, motorbike riders are around sixty times more likely to be involved in a crash, with upwards of 80% of these crashes involving a car. Research shows that a significant number of these collisions happen when vehicles are driving alongside or overtaking a motorbike. Much of this may be accounted for by the fact that motorbikes can inadvertently be hidden away in the car driver’s blind spot – that is, the area of the car’s mirror where nearby traffic just cannot be seen. The Blind Spot Detection Kit is a training aid for learner or beginner motorcyclists that aims to promote safer riding by highlighting when the user is sitting in a car’s blind spot. By using Artificial Intelligence technology, the kit recognises when the rider may not be visible to surrounding traffic and feeds this information back. This gives the motorcyclist time to adjust their road position, ensuring they are visible to nearby vehicles and thus reducing their chances of being in a potentially fatal accident. At the end of every journey The Blind Spot Detection kit emails the user with data from their trip, such as time spent in blind spots, length of travel, and tips and tricks to avoid being caught out in the future. After practising with the kit, users will start to recognise blind spots on their own and will learn to adjust their position to remain in the safest possible environment.
